Britain owns the largest celebrations outside Asia, with the traditional dragon and lion dance and parade from Trafalgar Square in London heading for Chinatown, drawing onlookers and cheers from tens of thousands of people.

Trafalgar Square, located in front of the National Gallery, goes with the largest Spring Festival celebration outside Asia, which has been held for 17 years and has become one of the UK and London's annual special events. And it is extremely popular among Chinese and overseas Chinese and local people.

特拉法加广场春节庆典是亚洲以外地区规模最大的春节庆祝活动，已连续举办17年，成为英国和伦敦每年的特色活动之一，深受在英华侨华人及当地民众喜爱。

Float parade is one of the major features of Trafalgar Square's Spring Festival celebration. At 10 o'clock in the morning, dozens of dragon teams and lion teams started from Trafalgar Square and presented the wonderful performances along the road. Moreover, blonde Westerners are not uncommon in the team, and some British children are seen as shuttling in the team waving dragon's heads. In the afternoon, the thematic show brought the culmination to the celebration. Various performances, such as Shaolin Kung Fu, national instrumental music, dance and magic, not only convey the joy of Chinese New Year, but also transmit Chinese culture.

In Manchester, a 54-meter-long dragon-led parade walked from the city center to Chinatown, where there is a long day of traditional Chinese entertainment, with more than 6,000 lanterns, street snacks and fireworks.

在曼彻斯特，一条54米长的由“龙”领头的游行队伍从市中心走到唐人街，那里有为期一整天的中国传统娱乐活动、6000多个灯笼、街头小吃以及烟花爆竹。

On January 27, the Chinese Embassy in the UK showed the promotion of "Happy Spring Festival, Beautiful China” in the big LG screen in Piccadilly Square, London, to show traditional Chinese culture, holiday blessings and Chinese landscape, humanities, economic and social development.

The overseas Chinese living in the United States are widely distributed, and the customs of their Spring Festival vary a great deal accordingly. Overseas Chinese from different places of China bring various local customs there, but the celebrations also depend on their local Spring Festival holidays and the popularity of New Year celebrations.

美国的华侨华人多，分布广，春节也各不相同。一方面，中国各个地区的华侨华人带去各种各样的当地风俗，而另一方面，美国各个地区的春节放假情况及庆祝情况也各不相同。

In Maryland, where lots of Chinese inhabit, Chinese New Year celebrations have been carried out vigorously since 2004. The activities paid off in 2006 when Chinese New Year was recognized to be a local holiday by the Maryland State Assembly. Also as early as 2005, New York put the Spring Festival as a statutory holiday, which means that Chinese workers and students there can ask for a day off legally on this day. At the end of 2014, New York passed the Lunar New Year Holiday School Act.

首都华盛顿附近华人比较集中的马里兰州，从2004年开始华人社区就接连大张旗鼓的过春节，他们造势和游说活动终于在2006年获得了回报，马里兰州议会承认春节是当地的节日。纽约早在2005年就把春节列为了法定假日，也就是说在春节这一天华人可以向公司和学校合法请假，不用上班、上学，自己安排如何过节。2014年岁末，纽约州通过了农历新年公校放假法案。

Now the Chinese New Year celebrations are grander and grander every year. Every Chinese New Year since 2001, the Empire State Building, a landmark building of New York, has lit red and gold lights, which are fancied by Chinese, instead of its normal Star-Spangled Banner of red, white, and blue colors to express their congratulations on the Chinese New Year.

从2001年，每到中国农历新年，纽约标志性建筑帝国大厦1327 只彩灯就会一改往日美国星条旗的颜色红、白、蓝，亮起华裔喜爱的红色和金色，庆祝农历新年的到来。

However, such vigorous activities are limited in just few places. Taking a glance at other places, you can hardly sense “the Spring Festival atmosphere”, even at places with lots of Chinese gathering.

但这样的热闹只局限华人区的少数地方，一旦离开这些地方，即便也是华人聚集的社区，从外表就很难感受到年味和春节的气氛。

　　新加坡

农历春节之际，在华裔人口占近80％的新加坡，无疑是一年中最重要、气氛最浓厚的节日。福建和广东人较多的新加坡，过年的时候也是南方味十足。新加坡华人还喜欢舞狮子、拜妈祖和大伯公，他们过年的气氛要比中国似乎还浓一些。新加坡市面上的春节气氛，以早年华人聚居地牛车水区最为浓厚。

　　①换橘

Being a small country and with its convenient transportation, Singapore witnesses customs kept all these years to visit relatives and friends in the first month of the Chinese lunar year. And on the lunar New Year's Day, adults and children wear new clothes and hats, and bring two oranges(桔) as a gift, meaning "good luck", "Good things should be in double", etc.. In return, the owner should give the guests two oranges, resulting in the so-called tradition of “Huan Ju(换桔)”. Because of this, oranges have become one of the necessities for a Chinese New Year in Singapore, and they are often in short supply by the end of the year.

地域小、交通方便的新加坡保留着正月里亲戚朋友互相登门拜年的习俗。大年初一去拜年，大人小孩都会“穿新衣，戴新帽”，并带上两个柑橘作为贺礼，寓意“大吉大利”、“两粒黄金”和“好事成双”，主人也要回赠给客人两个柑橘，新加坡人俗称“换橘子”。水果进口商指出，当主人接下两粒柑橘贺年礼后，等到客人要离去前，也要回赠两粒柑橘，新加坡人俗称“换橘子”。也因为这样，柑橘成为新加坡华人农历新年前必须采购的年货之一，年节前往往供不应求。

　　②捞鱼生：

Singaporeans attach great importance to Spring Festival dinner, which contains their special food - 'Laoyusheng'(捞鱼生). The main ingredients are fresh fish or abalone, with all kinds of fruits, vegetables, and sauces as dosing. When eating, people all stand up and stir with chopsticks, yelling words with good meanings.

新加坡人特别重视年夜饭，这里还有一道必不可少的美食——捞鱼生。主料是鲜鱼或者鲍鱼，配料是各种果蔬，甜酸酱料。吃的时候，大家站起来，举起筷子，把果蔬、酱料和鲜鱼，用筷子高高举起搅拌在一起，象征“捞得风生水起”。

　　③Where to eat:南宫体育

Singapore Chinese think highly of family reunion in the Lunar New Year, and most of them return to their parents’ home, and have a reunion dinner together. Sometimes they even continue to have reunion dinners for the next two days, which differs a lot from the ordinary Chinese community. More strangely, Singapore Chinese do not return to the wives’ mothers’ home on the second day. They consider the third day of the Lunar New Year as unlucky. Therefore, the New Year visits must be done before the third day.

新加坡华人非常重视家族在农历新年的团聚，大多数的新加坡华人会在除夕就回到父母家中，和家族一起吃团圆饭，有时甚至会连着一起吃饭到初一、初二，这是和一般华人社区较为不同的地方。更奇特的是，新加坡华人初二没有回娘家的习俗，而且因为觉得初三拜年不吉利，所以向亲友拜年的活动只到初二为止，必须赶在初二前向亲友拜年。

　　泰国

作为最受欢迎的春节度假地之一，泰国的春节气氛也是相对比较浓厚的。

　　①重视祭祖

In the Thai Chinese circle, the most important part of the Spring Festival is the ancestor worship ritual on the New Year's Eve. On the day of the New Year's Eve, most Chinese put all sacrifices on the small altar of their house, which include main courses like chicken, duck, fish and pork, desserts like rice dumplings and taro, and necessary fruits. Candlesticks and incense burners are also necessities. The most important ritual is finished only after all family members worship ancestors one by one. After the ritual, the dishes on the altar naturally become the main course of the dinner, but the fruit and dessert cannot be eaten until New Year's Day, because there is a ritual to "greet the God of wealth" around midnight of New Year's Eve.

在泰国华人圈中，春节最重要的环节莫过于除夕夜的祭祖仪式。除夕的白天，大多数华人会在家中的小祭台上摆放满满的祭品，鸡鸭鱼肉等大菜、汤圆和芋头等甜品以及时鲜水果必不可少，还要摆上烛台香炉。点上香烛，家中成员一一祭拜祖先，这才完成了除夕最重要的祭拜仪式。祭拜后，祭台上的佳肴自然就成了年夜饭的主菜，但水果和甜品还要等到大年初一才能享用，因为在除夕午夜前后，还要有个“迎财神爷”的仪式。

　　②先行布施礼

Unlike local traditions here in China, on the morning of the Spring Day, Thai Chinese go to the temple near their home to seek for the safety of next year before they visit relatives and friends. When donating in the temple, they normally do not show wealth, but merely put several kinds of desserts into the monks' the bowl so as to complete the ceremony.

与中国许多地方传统不同，泰国的华人并不急着在大年初一早晨去亲友家拜年，而是要到住家附近的寺庙里行布施礼，以求来年平安。布施时人们通常并不摆阔，只是将准备的三五种食品或甜点，放入僧侣手捧的钵来完成仪式。

　　澳大利亚

　　①悉尼歌剧院--亮红活动

There is a Chinese New Year celebration held in Sydney every year and the finale of the Dragon Boat Race often attracts hundreds of thousands of viewers. Hundreds of boat racers compete by pulling oar. Traditional Chinese dragon dance and lion dance performances deeply attract the audience. A chicken-like light is lit at the Sydney Opera House to celebrate Chinese New Year. It is reported that this activity began in 2013.

　　悉尼每年都举办中国农历新年庆典活动，压轴戏龙舟竞赛往往吸引数十万观众。数百名乘坐龙舟的队员竞相拨水，同时还有中国传统的舞龙舞狮表演，每一项活动都深深吸引每一个观众。在澳大利亚悉尼歌剧院旁的亮起鸡年生肖灯庆中国农历新年。据悉，悉尼歌剧院中国农历新年亮红活动始于2013年，今年已是第5个年头。

　　②墨尔本的“巨龙”

Melbourne has the longest “dragon” in the world, which is 150 meters long and has a history of 100 years. During the Spring Festival every year, over 200 strong Australian and Chinese carry the dragon along the streets and lanes, offering a spectacular view.

墨尔本有世界最长的巨龙，有150米长，100多年的历史。每年春节，200多名健壮的澳洲人和华人扛着这条巨龙串街走巷，非常壮观。
